All I'd add is that it's best to 'have fun first'.

I guess it's like going to a bar with the intention of picking someone up. Straight away there's pressure to succeed. It becomes a mission. Your skills and perceived attractiveness are on the line. If you pull then maybe you'll go home happy (depending upon the catch). If you don't pull then that's considered a failure and the little voice in your head will make it clear that's the case... probably for days to come. 

Alternatively if you go to a bar with the intention of having fun, mingling, getting to know people and maybe flirting a little - you really can't lose. Vacation plans should take a similar structure. Ensure you appear approachable, fun to be around and people will be naturally drawn to you.
