All the airlines would have to do to reduce the amount of delays is leave more time between flights for a particular aircraft.
Most of the delays I have experienced are due to an incoming flight being late, so my flight (on that particular aircraft) leaves later. (BTW, I am only refering to flights where the entire aircraft is emptied of passengers and not flights that are continuing on to another destination.)
