Afghanistan, Iraq, Remind Obama, War Dollars Home

Today, on the 8th anniversary of the invasion of Afghanistan, the Senate passed the 2010 Defense Budget with 93 yays to 7  nays.  The bill allocates $128 billion to continue the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.  This does not include any amounts allocated by additional war supplemental bills.

To date, we have already spent over a quarter trillion dollars on the war in Afghanistan alone.  This 2010 budget includes additional funding for the 21,000 additional troops Obama requested to send to Afghanistan earlier in the year.

Senator Russ Feingold, who has publicly called for a timetable for withdrawal in Afghanistan, was the only antiwar vote against the bill.

You do realize, the only reason this bill passed with so much support, is because there was a hate crimes bill earmarked to it. Before the attachment of the hate crimes bill, this bill had about half of the members of congress in support of it. (easily defeatable) If we want to keep funding war, just keep allowing Obama to sign these bills. We also need to hold Democrat members of congress accountable for this. Have the democrats not been listing? Don’t forget this bill would have NEVER have passed if Obama would have followed through with his numerous campaign promises; “We need to do away with the status quo. I will not sign any bill with earmarks.” Signing a bill with a hate crimes legislation “earmarked” to the defense-spending bill was a perfect example of this. Obama could easily have stopped this bill by keeping his promise on earmarks, while keeping face!
