Activists Stand Up for Bradley Manning — and PJ Crowley

When we heard on Sunday that P.J. Crowley had resigned as spokesman for the State Department after criticizing the Pentagon’s treatment of suspected whistleblower Army private Bradley Manning, my CODEPINK colleagues and I knew we had to respond. How outrageous that yet another person gets punished for simply telling the truth–Crowley called Manning’s treatment “ridiculous, [...]

CODEPINK Supports US Premiere of Miral, a film about Palestinian women

CODEPINK Women for Peace opposes attempts by the American Jewish Committee and the Israeli government to cancel tonight's US premiere of Julian Schnabel’s film, Miral, at the United Nations. It is only through a humane and nuanced discussion of the lived history and current realities of Palestinians—in Israel, in Gaza and the West Bank, and in the Diaspora—that a lasting and just peace for all people in the region can be attained. Efforts to intimidate and silence those who wish to further that discussion have no place in the American political landscape.

On this sad and shameful "anniversary" of the US bombing and invasion of Iraq, we know some things, and we don't know others. We know that this war was based on lies, was opposed by an unprecedented coordinated wave of global protests, was not approved by the UN Security Council, and was completely unnecessary and illegal.

Yesterday George W. Bush made a guest appearance as the keynote speaker at the 2011 MAILCOM conference held at the Washington Hilton Hotel, and we had totally forgotten about it. It's been a wild week for the CODEPINK DC office; Hillary was around the last few days, and yesterday morning we went to a House Appropriations Committee on Defense hearing with Robert Gates (Defense Secretary) and Mike Mullen (Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff), and then we dropped by a panel discussion about democracy in Egypt hosted by the Arab-American Anti-Discrimination Committee. Bailing on the panel discussion, at the last minute Medea and I drove over to the Hilton Hotel, and I scoped out the situation while she parked the car. We had our signs folded up and hidden in our purses, they read BUSH: WAR CRIMINAL and BUSH LIED, THOUSANDS DIED.
