Our Vanishing Civil Liberties: Panel Discussion on NDAA and more
Sunday, July 29th 2012  1 - 4 PM
San Francisco, CA

Panel discussion featuring CODEPINK organizer Nancy Mancias, Shahid Buttar (Bill Of Rights Defense Committee), Grace Shimizu (Asian Americans for Peace and Justice) and Ashwak Hauter (Arab Resource and Organizing Center) on the indefinite detention provisions in the 2012 NDAA, and other attacks on our civil liberties. Come for discussion, extensive Q and A period, action items and light refreshments.

Background: Last New Year's Eve, President Obama signed the NDAA (National Defense Authorization Act) for 2012. Through this law: the government can label you a terrorist, arrest you without charges, and hold you without trial, merely on suspicion of association with terrorist groups. The language in that part of the NDAA is so vague that it can be applied to anyone. The armed forces can detain you indefinitely, whether or not you are a US citizen. You can be denied the right to a lawyer and due process; you can be sent away to a foreign country, where you may be imprisoned and/or tortured with no legal recourse.

The 2013 NDAA is being debated in Congress this summer.

PLEASE JOIN US to learn about this attack on our civil liberties and what you can do!
